The students of Hilltop Consolidated School are excited! They're going to put on a musical of "Romeo and Juliet." But the director, Miss Peggy Donahue, pressed into service by a principal eager to please his superintendent, is horrified. Twenty years before, when she was a student at Hilltop, she starred in a disastrous production of Shakespeare's "Scottish Play," and she believes the curse lingers on. Sure enough, everything that can go wrong, does. The set for the balcony scene collapses, Juliet breaks her leg, her replacement develops laryngitis, and the semi-deaf costumer arrives with cowboy outfits - she thought the show was called "Rodeo and Lariat." Add a hysterical playwright, a stage mom from hell, and a mysterious cult of "techies"who sing a love anthem to duct tape, and you've got one merry mayhem of a madcap musical, quicker than you can say, "Macbeth" - oops! (First place winner in the Columbia Entertainment Company's 2000 Jackie White Memorial Playwriting Contest.)

"Olivia Twist" (Oct. 2007)

Rehearsal video with interviews with director and stage manager  (streaming video)

A fun musical with a whimsical blend of "Oliver Twist", "Annie" "Picture of Dorian Gray", "Sweeney Todd" and "Hansel and Gretel".  In it our heroine is a runaway found by the benevolent-seeming Ms. Doriana Fagan.  She offers Olivia a home in her "Happy Harmony Home" which is a place for female runaways and orphans. An idyllic setting for rebellious girls who want no restrictions on them!  But every year, some girl suddenly "decides she wants to go back to her home"\and disappears without a word to the other girls.  During the show, you will see what has been happening and how it is uncovered and stopped.  The story ends with one of the funniest "twists" in the history of show business!

From March '07, 2007 ~ "The Universe and Other Stuff"

Review:  So much talent on one stage!  It was a great success; the kids had a blast! (Or a big bang rather).

We at NSP thank both cast members and their parents for helping make this production one of our best ever!

Proceeds from the play helped support the North Shore Players Scholarship Fund.

Book, Music and Lyrics by Stephen Murray
Flexible cast from 12 to 60

This musical is a hip-hop, happenin' history lesson. From dinosaur extinction to Columbus, from the wheel to space exploration, they're all rediscovered in this clever, chaotic, comical cataclysm of creativity. From the rockin' "Big Bang" opening number and careening toward a stirring big finale anthem, "Circle of Friends," this upbeat, tuneful score also includes numbers like "It Stinks to Be Extinct," "Me and My Wheel," "You Better Avoid the Asteroids," and "Cave, Sweet Cave." Flexible casting for either a small ensemble playing a variety of roles, or a larger cast breaking down into "scene teams." Truly a show with universal themes, characters and humor junior high performers will love.

NSP's "The Universe and Other Stuff" set backdrop depicts the "Big Bang" and many of the

elements of the solar system; planets, comets, asteroids, the moon, etc.  Also we see the story of

the evolution of life on Earth up to man learning to use tools, and the invention of the wheel.
