North Shore Players Youth Theatre (2012-2013)
What the Youth Theatre and associated programs offer
|
The North Shore Players Youth Group was formed in January
of 2006. It has performed over twelve excellent children's plays (musicals),
including shows written and performed by the summer workshop group. Children's shows give kids a feel for the excitement of putting on multimedia productions, and developing their talents for music, acting, drama, and dance. Our group provides kids more opportunities than may be found in traditional school plays, in that everyone is given a chance to reach their highest level. Because the group age range is 6 - 16, some of our kids have been in over a dozen shows already. What brings them back is that they can craft things like stage awareness, timing, team work, musical abilities, choreography, and even acrobatics. Before long, they develop their own personal style, which makes the whole process fun and adventurous. Many kids that started out a bit shy are now role models of good stage presence that newcomers admire. (For more on programs, see the past Summer Workshop below).

The timeless "Wizard of Oz" tale has been adapted into a dazzling musical. A cyclone carries Dorothy and Toto to the magical Land of Oz. When Dorothy's house squashes the Wicked Witch of the East, she is ecstatically thanked by the liberated Munchkins and given permission to wear the witch's powerful silver slippers. From there, Baum's lovable characters, rubber-legged Scarecrow, Cowardly Lion and Tin Woodsman, join Dorothy on a journey to meet the great Oz. While on their trek, they battle the Wicked Witch of the West, who is determined to get revenge for the death of her sister. This bright musical is charged with a bundle of wonderful songs and thrill after thrill... like the escape from the Fighting Trees and encountering the enchanted poppies. Eventually, Glinda the Good Witch helps Dorothy defeat the evil witch and her winged monkeys. The great and powerful wizard grants Dorothy's friends their wishes and of course, helps Dorothy return to Kansas. |
